Search Engine Results Page(SERP)

The page Google (or another search engine) shows in response to a search query.

The SERP is the page of results shown after a user searches. Modern SERPs include far more than the traditional ten blue links — they may include featured snippets, AI overviews, local packs, knowledge panels, image carousels, video results, shopping ads, and 'people also ask' boxes.

Understanding SERP composition for your target keywords is critical for SEO strategy. A query dominated by local pack and shopping ads has limited organic opportunity. A query with featured snippets rewards content structured for snippet capture.

Example

Searching 'best CRM for small business' shows: AI Overview at top, two paid ads, a 'People Also Ask' box, organic listings, and a video carousel. Ranking #1 organically might still earn you only the 5th or 6th visible position.

Frequently asked questions

How do I see the SERP for my country/city?

Use a SERP analysis tool (Ahrefs, Semrush, SE Ranking) with geographic targeting, or use Google Search Console for queries where you already rank. Personal Google searches show personalized results and are unreliable.
