Search Engine Optimization(SEO)

The practice of optimizing websites to rank higher in organic search results.

Search Engine Optimization is the discipline of improving a website's visibility in unpaid search engine results. SEO has three main pillars: technical SEO (site architecture, crawlability, performance), on-page SEO (content quality, keyword targeting, structure), and off-page SEO (backlinks, authority, brand signals).

SEO is a long-term investment with compounding returns. Initial wins typically take 60-180 days; defensible market position usually takes 12-24 months. Companies that treat SEO as a quick-win channel waste budget; those that treat it as a multi-year asset capture disproportionate share of high-intent search traffic.

Google's algorithm updates (especially the helpful content updates from 2022-2024) have shifted SEO toward genuine quality and expertise (E-E-A-T) and away from keyword stuffing and link manipulation. Thin programmatic content, AI-generated articles without expert input, and link schemes increasingly get demoted or de-indexed.

Example

A SaaS company invests 12 months in SEO: technical fixes, 60 expert-led articles, and earned backlinks from credible industry sites. Organic traffic grows from 5K to 50K monthly visitors, generating 200+ qualified leads per month at near-zero marginal cost.

Frequently asked questions

How long does SEO take?

60-180 days for initial movement on lower-competition terms; 12-24 months for compounding traffic and competitive rankings. Anyone promising faster is either spamming or lying.

Is SEO dead because of AI search?

No, but it's evolving. AI overviews (Google SGE, Perplexity, etc.) change the SERP layout and click-through patterns, but they still source from indexed websites. Brands with strong SEO are positioned to be cited in AI answers — those without are invisible in both worlds.
