Local SEO
Optimization focused on ranking in local search results (Google Maps, Local Pack, local organic).
Local SEO is the practice of optimizing a business to rank in geographically-relevant searches. It overlaps with traditional SEO but has distinct levers: Google Business Profile optimization, local citations and NAP consistency, review velocity and quality, location pages, local link building, and proximity factors.
For any business that serves customers in physical locations — service-area businesses, retail, professional services — local SEO usually represents the highest-ROI marketing channel. Local searches have very high purchase intent and the competition (other local businesses) is typically less sophisticated than national SEO competition.
An HVAC contractor in Calgary invests 90 days in local SEO: GBP optimization, 200 NAP citations, review velocity automation, and city/service landing pages. Local Pack visibility increases from 15% to 60% for high-intent queries, generating an additional 80 calls per month.
