Your Money or Your Life(YMYL)

Topics that could impact a user's health, finances, safety, or wellbeing — held to higher quality standards by Google.

YMYL is Google's term for topics that could significantly affect a person's health, financial stability, safety, or wellbeing. Examples include medical advice, financial advice, legal guidance, and major life decisions. Google holds YMYL content to dramatically higher E-E-A-T standards than other content.

If your business operates in a YMYL space (healthcare, finance, legal, etc.), generic content marketing approaches that work in lower-stakes industries will underperform. Investment in author credibility, citation depth, and demonstrated expertise becomes essential.

Example

A finance blog publishing investment advice needs CFP-credentialed authors, clear disclosures, citations to financial regulators, and transparent business information — far more rigorous than a hobby blog about gardening would require.
