Largest Contentful Paint(LCP)

The time it takes for the largest visible element to render on a page.

Largest Contentful Paint is one of Google's Core Web Vitals — it measures how long it takes for the largest visible content element (typically a hero image or text block) to render after the page starts loading. Good: under 2.5 seconds. Poor: over 4.0 seconds.

LCP improvements typically come from: optimizing images (formats, sizes, priority), reducing JavaScript blocking, eliminating render-blocking CSS, using a CDN, and reducing server response time.

Example

Optimizing the hero image (converting to WebP, adding fetchpriority='high', proper sizing) reduces LCP from 3.5s to 1.8s.
