DoFollow Link

A standard link that passes ranking value (PageRank) from the linking site to the destination.

A DoFollow link is the default link type that passes SEO value (PageRank) from one site to another. It's contrasted with NoFollow links (rel='nofollow'), which signal to search engines that the linking site doesn't endorse the destination. NoFollow was traditionally used for paid links, comments, and user-generated content; in 2019 Google reclassified it as a 'hint' rather than a strict directive.

In SEO link building, DoFollow links from authoritative, relevant sites are the most valuable. NoFollow links from major publications can still carry value for traffic and brand signals even if their direct PageRank impact is reduced.

Example

A guest post on a major industry blog with a DoFollow link to your service page passes significant ranking value. The same link with NoFollow attribute still drives referral traffic but passes minimal direct ranking value.
